We have been proud sponsors of the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards for many years now.

This year, the awards which are now called the Summit Entrepreneurship Awards shifted up a gear and were part of a wider campaign to celebrate Scottish entrepreneurship. The campaign along with STV and Entrepreneurial Scotland showcased 9 inspirational stories exploring the entrepreneurial mindset, illustrating its brilliance and highlighting the value to our country’s economy and broader society.

The awards took place this year on 22 November 2018 - once again at the fabulous SWG3. These awards offer a platform for entrepreneurs to get together to share stories, reconnect and applaud all of the hard work accomplished over the year.

As proud sponsors we have the privilege of getting a sneak preview into the most successful entrepreneurs in Scotland as we have the pleasure of interviewing and meeting with the nominees.  Once again, we were blown away by the quality and diversity of the candidates and personally, it was very humbling, listening to some of the challenges the candidates had faced.

All of the finalists are extremely worthy contenders. All were clearly passionate about their respective businesses and demonstrated exceptional leadership skills which, combined with their vision and commitment to delivering a high-quality service, have resulted in them overcoming significant challenges to grow successful companies. This is evidenced by their individual track records while ongoing investment in their people and other assets has ensured they continue to run strong, sustainable businesses which can adapt to market changes.

A huge congratulation goes to Derek Pierce who was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year title. Derek is the Managing Director of J&D Pierce Contracts, one of the largest structural steelwork contractors in the UK. J&D Pierce employs 350 staff and has been involved in a number of prestigious projects including Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, Glasgow Queen Street Station redevelopment and Gatwick Airport’s new hanger for Boeing.

The achievements of J&D Pierce over the past 12 months have been remarkable. Derek and his team have enjoyed standout success at a time when Scotland’s entrepreneurs are delivering at home and abroad. Their recent work shows how our local businesses bring tangible benefits to some of the UK’s most significant projects.

Moving forward, it is important that we celebrate entrepreneurial role models of all kinds, wherever they are in their journey. Individuals with a real entrepreneurial mind-set are the people who can make the most of emerging opportunities and help Scotland become the most entrepreneurial society in the world.

Congratulations to all the winners and finalists, you are entrepreneurs.
