Lauren joined our consulting team through a graduate scheme. She talks to us about how Deloitte fosters a diverse and inclusive environment.

How do you explain your job to others and what do you like about it?

My job is to solve problems for businesses using the technical skills that they might not have, as well as providing an objective outsider view. One of the best things about working in this field for Deloitte is the wide variety of projects we get to work on. It is always changing, and you can shape your day-to-day role into whatever you want it to look like.

How does Deloitte support your wellbeing?

Deloitte is fully supportive of mental wellbeing on an organisational level, as well as an individual level. There are plenty of well-advertised resources to utilise, like the MyWellbeing portal, and regular webinars. You can also contact wellbeing leads in your team if you need to discuss anything. I have always found my teams to be supportive, and we regularly check in on each other to ensure that we’re all well.

What’s the best thing about working with your team?

The best thing about working with my team is the diversity. We are made up of a mix of people from Deloitte UK and Deloitte Denmark and Norway. The range of culture we bring to our projects is really is fantastic and I have learnt a lot about Nordic culture too. Our proudest moment was handing our deliverables in on a specific project, after working under exceptional resource and time constraints to get the work done. I feel a sense of purpose knowing that the work I do matters. Even at the lower grades you are able to make an impact and this is key to feeling a sense of purpose at work.

How does your team foster an inclusive environment?

Deloitte has lots of different networks and groups and everyone is made to feel included when they join. One great way of encouraging the team to be themselves at work, which we have started using, is creating a “Manual of Me”. These are individual bios for the team covering their personality, hobbies and ways of working. This allows the team to understand who they are as a person and the best way to support them to perform well.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I am in the British Army Reserves, serving part time alongside my full-time employment at Deloitte. The firm is very supportive of this and allows me the time to go on annual training courses. There is also an active Deloitte Military Network to connect those currently serving, as well as veterans.
