Louise’s work as a Senior Manager in Audit not only lets her jump from exciting project to exciting project, she also travels from country to country too.
What are you responsible for in your role and what’s a typical day like for you?
Within Audit, we check whether people have prepared their numbers in the way they should. I’m also somewhat of a detective when something needs investigating deeper, and a referee when there’s a red flag. We’re always challenging our approach by developing analytics, systems and relationships to produce interesting observations on a clients’ business.
There’s no such thing as a typical day, as you can’t plan for every eventuality – but success comes from a combination of the Deloitte and client teams working in sync. We’re also moving towards more analytics to risk assess clients better, and more AI technologies to help us do our day-to-day job and free us up to focus on judgmental work.
I get to travel with Deloitte too. For example, I’m currently overseeing Deloitte teams across the globe, and recently facilitated training and feedback sessions out in India. I managed to squeeze in a trip to the Taj Mahal which was amazing!
What was your most memorable moment on the job so far?
Being part of the GlaxoSmithKline audit team has been great, as it’s a complex global business. Smoothing the transition from their previous auditors to deliver a 1st year audit on time took a lot of blood, sweat and tears, but getting to the finish line was so satisfying! We received great client feedback on our fresh approach, and supported each other as a team.
What’s the best part of your job and in what ways is your team innovative?
I love getting to know the ins and outs of a business and seeing the end-to-end audit process. Showing a client how much you understand their business, bringing a fresh perspective and providing insights on how they could improve is invaluable. The firm encourages innovation, bringing ideas to the table, and piloting them on real-life projects.
Why would you recommend Deloitte to someone?
You’re not limited at Deloitte – I’ve been able to expand my knowledge across many new areas. Every team feels like family with great support and social events, and your work life balance is paramount.
How are you supported to work flexibly?
I work on a large client, which demands a lot of time. However, we have a culture of honesty and transparency, where you’re trusted to deliver So I’m able to be flexible with where I work and, most of the time, work from home on Fridays’ to start my weekend early!
