How did you join Deloitte?
I joined the 2008 graduate programme for Corporate Tax and became a part of Deloitte.
What are you responsible for in your role?
I am responsible for a multitude of roles, including assisting with the preparation and delivery of proposals, as well as keeping up to date on the travel industry. I typically draft marketing materials, assist with deal negotiations, and liaise with the client and deal advisor, to project manage the transaction to completion. I also help with managing teams of juniors on projects.
What’s a typical day like for you?
In my typical day, I will have weekly team meetings to discuss where current projects are, and the resources needed. I will then have a weekly catch up call with clients and advisors on the sell-side project. I then explain and delegate company research (either for business development or for the deliverable I am working on) to juniors in the team. I’ll then draft a few slides for the document I am working on, maybe sit down with the project team to chat through the content/presentation. In the afternoon, I will complete a PSR review on another teams document.
What is your most memorable moment on the job so far?
My most memorable moment was working on a 10-month secondment to assist with the Financial Advisory integration of NEW (Project Gold). I also gained insight into how firm strategy is set and actioned, as well as working with very senior partners, both UK and Internationally. I also developed people skills where I would have never been exposed to otherwise, which helped me greatly in improving my personal network.
What’s the best part of your job and in what ways is your team innovative?
Hands down, the sub-team I work in (THL) is the best part of my job. We are very open and supportive of each other, which makes the working environment great. Additionally, the THL sectors are more relatable than others, which helps a lot.
Why would you recommend Deloitte to someone?
Deloitte is a brilliant company because they are changing their approach to agile working, and joining the diversity debate. They are actually setting goals and making a change in the way we all work.
How are you supported to work flexibly?
In 2015, I took time off to go travelling in Australia and New Zealand. I did this by taking off a mixture of time off, both unpaid and annual leave.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I love to go to Deloitte’s gym classes, to go travelling and sightseeing, try new restaurants and cuisines, as well as cooking new and exciting recipes.
