Following a 3-year hiatus, Charlotte Blyton, our Associate Director in Tax returned to Deloitte with an eagerness to work. Since then she's been going from strength to strength. Read about her triumphant return to work.

How did you join Deloitte?

I joined Deloitte on the pilot Return to Work programme in 2015 after a three-and-a-half year career break.

What are you responsible for in your role?

I project manage numerous internal and client-facing tax projects, specialising in tax governance and risk and operational transfer pricing, bringing together and leading teams to deliver these services. I also coach several consultants in my department and am a member of our talent team, with a focus on experienced hires.

What’s a typical day like for you?

I split my time between the Reading and London offices. On a typical London office day, I would drop my children at breakfast club and commute to London. I would check and deal with some emails during my commute, then my day would usually be filled with various client and internal meetings and calls. On a typical Reading day, I would drop the children off at school at 8.45am then have a short commute to the office. I have less meetings when I am in Reading, so this enables me to review/complete reports and to catch up on projects & emails.

What was your most memorable moment on the job so far?

Being nominated for a Timewise Power 50 award earlier this year. I was selected as one of ten winners in the Power Returners category and attended an inspiring event to celebrate with other winners from forward-looking companies like Deloitte, which are changing the face of agile working in the UK.

What’s the best part of your job and in what ways is your team innovative?

The best part of my role is working with great people; clients and colleagues. My team is extremely innovative as we are working helping clients to develop their tax departments of the future, through technology and process improvements.

Why would you recommend Deloitte to someone?

I lost confidence during my career break and Deloitte has given me an amazing opportunity to resume and grow my career. Deloitte is truly a great place to work.

How are you supported to work flexibly?

I work 3-4 days per week, splitting my time between the London and Reading offices. I also took a one month “Time Out” this summer to spend with my children.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy spending time with my children, swimming, yoga, dancing and cycling.
