When did you join Deloitte and what’s your role?

I joined Deloitte back in January 2015 as a Client Services Administrator within the Global Employer Services (GES) team. Given that I was surrounded by inspiring and supportive tax professionals, I was keen to develop within the department and was able to progress into a Tax Technical role less than a year after joining. My current role is a Tax Consultant.

What made you pursue a career in your field?

My first Saturday job was a Junior Auditor at an age of 15, so I’ve always wanted to work for one of the Big Four eventually. When I first moved to the UK, I joined the hotel industry, but I knew that I wanted to do something more regulated with more rules and guidelines to refer to. When I found the opportunity at Deloitte within the GES team, I knew that the role would present me with all of the above and more. So I guess the moral of this story is that it is never too late to join the world of Tax.

What do you like best about working for Deloitte?

Deloitte seem to understand the modern day pressures, and put tools and initiatives in place to address these: flexible working arrangements which include regular working from home (and you don’t need an excuse!), our focus on Mental Wellbeing, our Return to Work schemes and training.

What were your top four most memorable achievements in 2018?

Promotion to Consultant, getting married, sticking to my New Year’s resolution of spending more time with my family from Latvia, and completing the Observation Point trail in Zion National Park in Utah in the US.

Looking back on 2018, what were your key motivation drivers; how did your creativity help you overcome professional challenges?

Being surrounded by a dedicated and ambitious team is a great motivator. Additionally, I follow my mantra: “A challenge shared is a challenge halved.” (I refuse to use the word “problem”).

It’s never too late (or early) to start the career you’ve always wanted. To find yours, look at our latest opportunities in Tax.
