After working in the leisure industry, Sam wanted a big career change. He also knew university wasn’t for him, so our BrightStart program was the perfect gateway to the new career he wanted. Read his story.

1. When did you join Deloitte, and what is your role?

I joined Deloitte as a BrightStart in September 2017 and I am currently an Analyst in the Employment Taxes Reward and Share Schemes team based in Reading.

2. Why did you join our BrightStart programme?

For me, this scheme presented an opportunity to enter a new career and gain fantastic qualifications and experiences without having to go to University. I previously worked in the leisure industry, and without an opportunity like this it would have been very difficult for me to have made such a drastic career change. Having previously left University after one year, this was not a route I wanted to return to. Deloitte is a firm that I knew had a fantastic reputation, and the more I looked into it, the more excited I became to join the Deloitte team. I’m glad to say that my expectations have been met in every way since I joined! 

3. How would you describe your BrightStartjourney?

The best thing about my journey so far has been gaining experience in the workplace alongside studying for my professional exams. My team have supported me every step of the way so far and I’ve also been lucky enough to be involved in some really interesting client projects. I feel that Deloitte’s approach to employee welfare and flexible working have helped massively in my journey, allowing me to work from other offices (and home on occasions) to take away some of the pressure on my personal life caused by my regular commute (3 hours a day!). I couldn’t recommend this scheme highly enough!
