What does a typical day look like for you?

I would definitely say that there is no typical day! For example, I began today with a client meeting where we started planning their upcoming audit.

As a result of that I now need to create an action plan and have set my team a number of activities to work on. I had planned to spend the afternoon reviewing an Audit Committee paper that I’ll be helping to present to a client in a couple of weeks, but our audit analytics tool alerted me to something urgent I had to deal with so I turned my attention to that. That’s part of what I love about my job, it’s so varied and demands an ability to be flexible and juggle lots of things at once.

How does technology help in your role?

We have internal cognitive software that reads contracts and highlights items for our attention. I’ll often run a data check on that and have that going on in the background whilst I work on something else, so it saves a lot of time. We also use an audit analytics tool called Spotlight. Again that can run whilst I am working on something else. It’ll flag up anything that needs urgent attention. As a result of that I might need to schedule an urgent global team meeting for example, to agree how we respond.

Are you involved with any projects outside of your client commitments?

Deloitte really encourages you to put your hand up and become involved in anything that you’re passionate about or interested in doing. I think it’s really important to nurture our younger talent so I mentor someone. We have regular one to one’s. She has some fantastic ideas about how to improve some of our processes and the way we do things. I feel it’s a privilege to be able to support her with that.

Similarly, I help with student recruitment – allocating mentors for our new graduates, working with the recruitment teams to improve how we communicate with students and new joiners. I also really enjoy attending industry events, and anything that helps support women in business. It’s a great opportunity to network with like-minded people.
